First Create the Problem………..

One day I read that due to the chemicals and preservatives that we are ingesting nowadays, the human body takes four times longer to rot than it did hundred years ago. It seems the continuous high level of preservatives we eat in our food also keeps us going longer in death too.

Humans have consistently shown and proven how clever they are. If some other people were watching planet earth and the developments here in the last 150 years, the first thing they would conclude is that Earthlings seem to revel in first creating a problem then trying to solve it. And they do it with such gusto that the whole world joins in the game; that their games have nearly destroyed all vestige of sane living does not seem to bother them a tiny bit.

Mechanization and dependence on large scale manufacture is coupled with chemical wizardry to create new products and food that last longer on the shelf. Now we have a lot of food but as work is done by machines and people are unemployed, they don’t have the money to buy it.

What plastics is doing to the recycling effort of Mother Earth is now understood by everybody even the class four children. But what is less understood and less wanted to be understood how the food chain and its nutritiveness has been destroyed. Health care has been overtaken by a manipulative and business minded conglomerates who are first taking advantage of the systematic destruction and then introducing products to cover up the deficiencies and becoming vulgarly rich in the process; the common man being impoverished in the process so very completely that I wonder if we have even lost the basic sense of our own selfish cleverness.

For example take the Milling of wheat and rice. The rice has been denatured to like nice and white and reduced to pure good taste and beautiful to look at but all the nutritive properties have been milled out and given to the cows for fodder. The wheat is now ground at high speeds under pressure so that every health giving property of the wheat is pulverized; the vitamins destroyed by the heat and the roughage destroyed by too fine grinding of the grains.

The land these products are grown has been laced with artificial fertilizers which do not provide all the minerals and elements for a properly nutritive end-product. Then this very product is processed in factories, colors and preservatives added along with many other wonderful new chemical compounds. Now we have food on the shelves year round but no health to speak of. Rather after centuries of having to fast periodically due to the vagaries of Mother nature, we now have so much food that we gorge on it to the point where a whole industry has come up to help people reduce their weight and cholesterol level.

Take the oils we use in cooking. First the intelligencia scared the populace that butter and fatty cooking oils are dangerous. So they processed the oils by removing all colors and deodorizing it; in the process removing all health giving minerals and vitamins and then to make it acceptable and give it long shelf-life, chemicals were added. This they said is good for the idiotic populace and the people should be grateful that they now have food and safe products on their tables and in their homes.

Then to offset all the damage done, they advised us to take multivitamin & mineral supplements and created specialty units to treat heart and diabetic problems which we love to patronize. Cancer is now the easiest disease to catch and they don’t tell you that it is not a disease but an imbalance of the bodies chemical and other factors that they have helped put together.

Even simple things like water and air have been so chemically recomposed that we now need expensive filters to enjoy what Mother nature had given us free for the last few million years. But consider the level of intelligence that none of us is prepared to forgo any of the comforts and products that are directly playing havoc with our lives

It is a wonderful and huge farce in which we are all gleefully participating.

I think of the question: Quo Vadis?

Wither goest thou? Wither goest we I really would like an answer.

Some notes on slow ground wheat.

This slow ground wheat will bring back the taste and health factors that are still remembered by most of the people, specially in metros and there is a large number of people who miss it. It is like other food products that have gone out of fashion but are remembered and always find a ready market like Buttermilk, fresh loaf of bread and fresh white butter. 

- Go back to slow grinding to eliminate heating of wheat when being ground.

- Mechanise the old hand-operated grinding system process and thereby make it less fatigue-intensive.

- Generate employment for the non-educated work force available in plenty and begging for work.

-  Nutritionally, by keeping all the vitamins and roughage intact, promote better health.

- Industrial high speed grinding has a Direct relationship with diabetes and heart problems as Vit E along with other vitamins in although lesser quantity is destroyed and roughage becomes too fine to be effective.

- Slow speed grinding will improve health by way of directly  keeping all the vitamins specially Vit E and roughage intact.

- A less disease-prone and stronger populace will dramatically decrease loss of working hours due to sickness and dependence on drugs etc.

High speed grinding heats up the flour to such a high temperature that it is partially cooked in the grinding. The flour loses its nutritive properties and as it is precooked it starts rotting in storage. This flour is stale and stale food cannot give health.

High speed grinding denatures the wheat.

Slow-ground wheat will bring back all the health giving properties of wheat back into play.

 Now it is in the patio where I read my papers in the morning with my cup of coffee or relax meditatively in the quiet of early hours; specially when the weather is pleasant like in the monsoons.

  It's my favorite furniture.  It was my grandfather’s chair.  I don't remember him ever sitting in another chair unless it was at the kitchen table. It is a Mission Oak style rocker. I cleaned it up and varnished it after I got it. It had lots of dirt caked on the arms where my grandfather came in from working and put his arms there.  After he died I sat in it to do my homework as I was growing up. I would throw my legs over the arm and sit sideways.  It is where I recuperated when sick wrapped in blankets. It was the one thing that I wanted when my mom died. It holds a place of honor in the living room.

 About the goals of The Artnership Shop.

This idea of a cooperative effort to “hard-sell” was born when I felt that individually the marketing costs work out astronomically high.  Most artists are not comfortable with the technical and business aspect of marketing. Where is the time too? I find many artists are not very comfortable using the basic computer even. So this venture is for those who would be happy to leave the marketing to me (more about me at: http://sites.google.com/site/pradeepmaheshwaris164gk1del/ )

whereas they keep themselves busy with their art and creative activities.

1) This is not a business venture for me. I am offering through this venture my 35 years of marketing & business experience. It is promoted as a service to artist friends. It is totally nonprofit in concept.

2) The idea behind the Shop is to bring your art and you to a wider audience & exposure; so that in the final analysis, our originals find their way to appreciative clients. That is all.

3) I felt something more solid was needed. So this offer of a permanent address + continuous promotion through various means like advertising, personal contacts and displays.

4) Although I must mention, I reserve the right to select the paintings put up for sale.

Being true to his salt.

Loyalty and Honesty are words that are getting rather mauled up in the present age. Whatever happened to the established norms of loyalty and undiluted honesty because one had partaken “salt” from parents, families, friends and employers?  Once we had taken the gift of sharing their “salt” we were bound to repay in kind; the elders gave us protection and the younger ones by service.

How principles, attitudes & mentality have changed. My younger brother who is not blood related, but I have been adopted as an elder brother so the tie is as strong, is a gold smith. He was doing very well with over 20 workers under his care. He is from the villages of Bengal and his workers mostly hail from there.. My brother used to take orders from shops, execute them and that was that.. It was simple, good honest work if you can ever think of a goldsmith as completely honest. But today, twenty years on, he has closed down his workshop. Why? Because the workers tend to run away with the material given to them for executing orders; 20 years ago this happened once in a blue moon, now it is rare to find a worker who would most probably not do it.

A young man from the forgotten corners of Bihar came in touch with me. He was good at computers repair and maintenance and kept my system in good form all the time. He wanted a credit card but did not have a permanent address so he asked me permission to show himself as living with me as a tenant. He got his credit card and for five years things were well. In the mean while the bank offered him enhanced credit of 150.000 rupees. He got tempted and used it up. In the meanwhile the boy got diagnosed with renal failure. His income came to nil. I had no inkling of it. When the bankers started chasing him for payment, then I learnt of what was happening. I asked the banker on what grounds had they given this guy so much credit?  I told them I was just an address to receive his mails as he is always in the field and all correspondence is sent by special courier that requires the presence of somebody to receive. I have no idea about anything else. Now as far as I know, the boy has run back to his home somewhere in Bihar.

I feel that too much is being given too fast to people who have not been adequately “character wise” formed to receive the bounties. We have unleashed motorcycles and cars on the roads. Other facilities like mobile phones etc should have given mobility and communication ease to all. It has. Now the thieves and scoundrels are having a field day. Many who would have been otherwise too afraid to do anything but be decent citizens are now inspired by the gangsterism they see around them are taking it on as a profession. Even decent citizens let themselves go as you can see in road rage cases.

In contrast my mother tells me of a story from her childhood. The accountant who was responsible for collecting taxes used to go about alone in the horse buggy with another man. One evening it was getting late and the accountant was getting jittery as they would have to pass through a lonely stretch which was known for its dacoits. He kept on telling the driver to hurry and go faster but the other guy was just not paying heed. The poor accountant became certain that his time had come and he would suffer for ever in purgatory for letting his master down.  Right in the middle of nowhere the buggy came to a stop. The accountant hollered to his companion that he was being untrue to his salt and what a mean fate has brought them together. The other guy just got down, gave a shout or two and soon there were men surrounding them. The accountant was shaking like a jelly. Guess what the driver did? He asked two of the men to accompany them till the town as there was a huge amount of cash to be protected! And they all reached home safely.

Another story my mother relates is about a raid by dacoits at her sister’s in-laws. The youngest child bride came weeping to the chief of the dacoits imploring him “Uncle, please do not take my things. My mother in law will kill me”.  His response was

 “Well now that you have called me uncle I am duty bound to protect you. Don’t worry”. He then told his lieutenants to leave anything belonging to this child bride alone and while leaving admonished the mother in law – “If, even a hair of this girl is ever harmed, I shall come back and settle scores!”

This was what it meant to be true to his salt and one’s  own.
